When the BlueTux Team was engaged, the Port of Port Angeles website had not been updated for years. The site did not represent the Port’s new facilities, its business development efforts, or its many community-related activities. The Port needed to project an image that was in tune with the Internet age, and which would encourage economic growth through the use of their facilities. More importantly, a cultural shift was necessary within the organization to get more than 50 employees in four offices throughout the county to recognize the importance of Internet-based communications.
The Port of Port Angeles website required gathering, organizing, updating and editing content from several departments to produce the more than 100 pages of content found in the website. Each of the section pages has a complimentary photo and then each section has its own navigation system. All of the major documents were converted to PDF at the request of the client, to prevent alteration.
The Port website is a complex website that features more than six databases that are used to maintain routinely changing content and functionality that includes: site-wide search, news, events, agendas and minutes, project updates, and more.
The homepage was designed to provide an overview of the entire site and give visitors a snapshot of important items including: recent news, upcoming events, commissioner agendas and minutes, contact information, photo gallery, and direct links to the most commonly used sections of the site.
The Port’s website is almost entirely maintained in-house by non-technical staff with occasional updates to functionality by BlueTux Internet Services. Traffic has increased significantly since the new website was launched and Port now has an effective Internet-based communication system to reach its public audience.
